POLLUTERS
In many cases, individual industrial and commercial facilities
continue to be significant sources of preventable toxic pollution.
These include manufacturers, waste incinerators, power plants,
hospitals and other large institutions, oil terminals and so on. The
use and release of persistent toxic chemicals by industrial polluters
increases health risks to workers and residents around the facility and
poses long distance hazards as these chemicals are transported hundreds
or thousands of miles away.
Find out more about toxic polluters in your community. The Right-to-Know Network, a service provided by OMB Watch,
provides free access to numerous databases including the federal Toxics
Release Inventory System. With the information available on RTK NET,
you can identify specific factories and their environmental effects and
assess the people and communities affected.
Get more facts on local pollution. Scorecard
maps toxic releases and a variety of other environmental hazards and
includes information on the health effects of chemicals. This is a
service of Environmental Defense.

This report by Clean Production Action covers the fundamental
principles of the much needed transition to pollution free
manufacturing and clean products and services.
