Sustainable Bioplastics Council of Maine

Green jobs that can’t be outsourced. A boost to the rural economy. Production of environmentally friendly materials from nature. Around that vision the Environmental Health Strategy Center organized leaders in manufacturing, agriculture and the University to research and develop bio-based plastics from Maine potatoes, potato waste and wood chips. We helped form the Sustainable Bioplastics Council of Maine, a trade organization committed to developing a bioplastic manufaturing enterprise in Maine. Two million dollars in R&D funding has been raised with the aim of catalyzing commercial production of non-toxic, petroleum-free bioplastics that can be composted at the end of their useful life.
