Our Work

Cancer, learning disabilities and reproductive disorders are affecting more and more families. We need more effective solutions to prevent harm from these and other health threats. That’s what the Environmental Health Strategy Center is all about.

We work to get toxic chemicals that threaten our health out of everyday products and to create an economy built on safer, sustainable alternatives.

We’ve been very successful at shaping Maine law to protect people from known hazards like lead, mercury, brominated flame retardants and arsenic. We’ve also spearheaded creation of a first-in-the-nation law to fix the broken system that allows untested and unsafe chemicals on the market in the first place.

Now we’re working to make sure that law is put into practice to get toxic chemicals out of common products and to take our Maine models of safer chemical policies to Congress so that all products sold for our families are safe for our families.

At the same time we are leading an innovative research and development project to use cutting edge green chemistry discoveries to create safer products here in Maine from our renewable natural resources.

We can prevent harm and create healthy communities and green jobs, and you can be a part of it. Join us!
